FAQ

  • I've Never Played Rugby Before, Can I Still Become a Renegade?

Absolutely! We believe that rugby is for everyone and it is never too late to learn how to play. There are multiple members of our team that never knew how to play rugby before joining. We provide the resources for you to learn the laws of the game and will always be there to support you.

  • If I Do Not Identify as a Woman, Can I Still Become a Renegade?

We welcome humans identifying as woman, gender-noncomforming, and non-binary. If you fall into those categories and you’d feel comfortable playing in a women’s league, we would love to have you! If you’d feel more comfortable in a men’s league, there are two Rochester men’s teams; the Aardvarks and Colonials.

  • How Much Does it Cost to Become a Renegade?

It will vary per season but we estimate between $150-$250 per season (spring, summer, fall) which includes team dues and required insurance through USA Rugby. You can come to a few practices to see if rugby is for you before being required to pay dues. We never want cost to be a reason why someone doesn’t become a Renegade. We can set up a payment plan or are working towards being able to offer player sponsorships.

  • When Do the Renegades Practice?

It depends on the season! During our spring season we practice indoors on Tuesday nights from 6PM-7:30PM. Once the weather warms up, we move outdoors and practice on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6PM-8PM.

  • What if I Can't Make Practice? Can I Still Become a Renegade?

Yes! We understand that a lot of our players have previous and/or competing priorities. You are welcome to attend practice as your schedule allows. However, safety is our number one priority and we will not allow any player to engage in contact if we do not feel it would be safe. Additionally, we hold special events, fundraisers, rugby 101 clinics, and extra practices in which you are welcome to attend!

  • Will I Get Tackled on My First Day?

No. Safety is our number one priority and we ensure that our players feel confident with the foundations of rugby. We will teach every player how to safely make a tackle and engage in full contact. You will need a mouthguard to participate in full contact as well.
