Rochester rugby teams join forces to help people of Ukraine

The Rochester Aardvarks, Renegades, and Colonials came together to form One ROC Rugby, an initiative to support people impacted by the war in Ukraine. Saturday, the group hosted their first fundraiser event, with all proceeds being donated to RocMaidan, a local humanitarian organization focused on helping the people of Ukraine.

I’m with you. I’m behind you. I’m on your right. I’m on your left. But ‘with you’ is that term and that is what we’ve found is really the big thing that unites this community and this team is we’re all with you, we are all one team, we’re all one community, and Meg really embodied that and that’s how we like to remember her,” Rochester Renegades Club President Hannah Emminger said.

“A lot of the teams here played with or against Meg at one point and knew how key she was and how quickly she picked up the game and how much she loved the sport…She found her sport when she found rugby. And so even if you didn’t know Meg, there’s so many people out here that are touched by suicide that are here to support the cause and raise money for suicide prevention in her memory. It’s really great to see.”
